Hi,
It would be really nice for an end-user to be able to point the report designer at an OData service and have it consume that data without any other intervention necessary. (The inspiration here would be Linqpad which can dynamically bind to an OData service and then have ad-hoc queries issues against it). Any chance this could make it on the roadmap?
Thanks,
Jason

Hello Jason,
Since Q2 2012, we've added support for ObjectDataSource component to the standalone report designer, which allows you to bind to OData feeds. For more information refer to the following links:

Thanks - I'm aware of that approach, but that's not exactly what I'm referring to. The idea would be to allow the person writing the report (perhaps an business user) to simply connect the end-user report designer to a URL the developer provides, and data is magically available. Internally the end-user report tool would have to be able to dynamically consume a given OData service, a la' Linqpad. I'm sure this is difficult to implement, just throwing it out there as a possible future enhancement.

I fully agree on the validity of Jasons request for the business users ability to connect the "Telerik End-user Report Designer" directly to consume data from an oData service.
This is a very compelling feature for the end users, does anyone know any status for the availabiliy of this feature ?
(I am not asking for the well known approach using Visual Studio etc., that Steve is referring to).
Thanks,
Swan

Hi Swan, ObjectDataSource is supported in the end-user designer: http://www.telerik.com/help/reporting/standalone-report-designer-extending-configuration.html
