I have found a few articles in the KB about multi image upload functionality being available in Q1 prometheus, but I cannot find any examples. Please would you give me an example (preferably in  Q2 code).

Is it possible to use the DialogManager in Q2 to open the image manager as an indipendant dialog?

Regards,
Greg

Hi Greg,

The multiple file upload feature is not yet implemented, but it will be possible after we integrate RadUpload in the editor's File Browser dialogs. Currently, you can add this control only inside custom dialogs.

Yes, it is possible to use the File browser managers of RadEditor as standalone dialogs. You can see how to do that in this article: Using the Image and Document managers outside RadEditor.

Great thanks for those examples. Is the integration likely to be included in the Q3 release?

Hi Greg,

The Q3 release is scheduled for the end of this week and we will not have enough time to make the implementation. Nevertheless, we are currently working on a new file browser manager, which will have beta status in the Q3 release. We plan to integrate the new enhanced manager in the editor's file browser dialogs and after that to add RadUpload to it. We will try to make this for the SP1 of Q3 2008.

Hi

just to follow this comment - this is the number 1 feature as requested by our end-usersm and is a source of constant frustration for them - this is a welcome release and a key feature I think. Can you confirm an estimate of when you expect to release the multiple file upload funtionaltiy into the file managers please?

Thanks
Eamonn

Hello Eamonn,

We are currently actively working on this feature. What we are doing right now is integrating the new RadFileExplorer [BETA] into the RadEditor FileBrowser dialogs.
Here is an online demo with RadFileExplorer:
http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/Editor/Examples/FileExplorer/Overview/DefaultCS.aspx

The RadFileExplorer was released in beta because it still lacks some features that we are currently adding - and one of those features is the ability to load more that 1 file at a time using RadUpload.
The new version of the dialogs will appear either in the Q3 2008 SP2 scheduled for mid January or several weeks later - when the Q1 2009 Futures [public beta] is released.

Hello Tervel and the Telerik team,

I am using the telerik version 3.1314.20. How can I use multiple upload fields? I've tried various things.

Even better would be to select multiple images with the CTRL key, but that is only possible with Silverlight RadTools?

Thanks,
Fredrik

Hi Mallverkstan,

We will be releasing the public beta for Q1 2009 about a week from now. This new version will feature both the RadFileExplorer as a separate control of the RadControls suite, as well as it being integrated into the RadEditor FileBrowser dialogs.

The RadFileExplorer does feature already a multiple file upload, using the RadUpload control.

As you correctly noted, however, DHMTL technology does not allow to select multiple files in the "Choose file..." browser dialog, so choosing several files requires opening the dialog several times.

Best wishes,

Hi Mallverkstan

Am I correct in saying then that even after this release, as far as File Upload is concerned, you'll still have to open the dialog multiple times to get multiple file upload functionality, as per the current RadUpload implementation?

That being the case, is there any way/could you provide an example of how we could use the Silverlight Upload control instead of the RadUpload control within the RadEditor Fiel dialogs to get functionality where you can actually select multiple files at a time - this is what our users really want/need.

Thanks
Eamonn

Hello Eamonn,

That is correct - the RadFileExplorer will use RadUpload, which works in the manner already described (due to browser/protocol restrictions).

We have plans to create an integration example using RadUpload for Silverlight in ASP.NET environment, but at this point there is no such example. The main challenge to use is the fact that RadUpload performs the upload asyncrhonously in a completely different thread - and this present serious change to the HTTP / ASP.NET approach.

Best wishes,
