Hi,

According to this webpage http://www.telerik.com/help/wpf/radmap-overview.html, your map control has multi-touch support for panning and zooming. However, it seems that by default this is not enabled when using the control on Windows 7. In other locations it is said that Silverlight has multi-touch support, but the WPF version does not. Can you please clarify? We are on a deadline so I hope we don't have to spend time to create a workaround for this.

Thank you for your answer,
Lex

Hello Lex,

Currently the multi-touch support for panning and zooming is enabled by default on Windows 7 for Silverlight and WPF versions of the map control.

URGENT because of deadline for our project

Hi,

I downloaded and installed the recent Q3 release, assuming the multitouch-zooming support was added recently, but this doesn't make a difference. I am sure that our software is working with the new components since a) we don't get the 'you are using a trial version' message anymore and 2) when we update a collection of POI items, they don't appear in the top-left corner anymore.

Do you have a video or documentation about this? Because we cannot get it to work on our various touch-enabled systems. Not in the demo-application, nor in our own application.
Our two systems consist of:
- an MSI WindTop all-in-one PC with dual touch
- a dreaMTouch touch-frame by Citron engineering/Electrosil with 32 touches

Both devices are fully compatible with Windows 7 / WPF: all regular multi-touch demos and downloads from Microsoft and other sources work as expected.

I have tried to create a 'Telerik project' with a Map in it, but I don't get multi-touch zooming there either. (when I try it, the map just pans).

I tried setting IsManipulationEnabled=true on the map control, but then it doesn't respond to touch at all anymore.

Can you mail a sample project to the e-mail address coupled to my account?

Hope you can help!

Lex

Hello Lex,

I am sorry for the misleading information, provided in our initial reply. The multi-touch support in RadMap is indeed still applicable only to the SIlverlight version of the control. There is a glitch in our help, leading to supplying this information in our WPF help, and that is not correct (the documentation will be updated shortly).

Please, accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Hello Freddie,

First of all: Happy New Year. And, apologies accepted, things like that happen sometimes.

But can you make a version of the Map control which does have this support for us? Maybe in a beta update? It's going to be much easier for you guys to add it, since you already have the code of the Silverlight version, than for us to make a hack to support this. I can probably simulate a zoom by tracking the touch-positions, but probably this zoom will be around the center of the screen and not around the center of the first two touches :-( ...

Also, since smooth zooming is not supported when the spring animations are off the zoom is going to jump when users move their fingers a certain distance..
All in all this is not going to be pretty, so I really hope you can add good support for multitouch zooming soon!!

Or perhaps you could post some sample code here to show how you guys would make the 'hack' based on the current release, then everyone reading this forum can benefit from this as well. That would be a great help!

Hello Lex,

Generally the lack of multi-touch support in the WPF version of the map control is related to the fact that there is no "stock" (MS) version of the MultiScaleImage control for WPF. We will need to research how to add this functionality for our own proprietary WPF MultiScaleImage implementation first but I am not sure that we will be able to provide this feature for the Q1 2011 release as we have already finalized the product backlog for the mid-March release.

All the best,

Is there any update for this.  It seems that the WPF control still doesn't have multi-touch zoom.  Even without the MultiScaleImage, it would be helpful if it zoomed just like the normal zoom controls do.

I've also been waiting for this feauture without knowing there is a vote function - count me in!

With Windows 2008 coming this year this feature must get a higher priority. Can you at least give us a hint if you are going to add the functionality or not

Best regards

Robert

@Giuseppe: There is still a glitch in your documentation one year later your post!

Hello Robert,

This feature is not in our plans for 2012.Q1 release, but we will definitely address it during year 2012.
As for the documentation - unfortunately you are right. However the responsible people were notified and we'll take actions accordingly to fix this.

Hi Robert,

Unfortunately I can't say for sure when we will implement this feature in year 2012 (2012.Q2 or 2012.Q3). You can check our PITS periodically:

Hi,

is there any update on this? For us this is a big issue (general lack of multi-touch support within the WPF controls). There are four related issues open and none is "in progress". The Map control would be the most important to us.

As we move our software from Win7 to Win8 multi-touch is a requirement. Most of our applications are written utilizing WPF which is capable of multi-touch for years now. I'm quit surprised that this isn't already available with Telerik WPF. All our applications have proper multi-touch support right now. So switching to Telerik would feel like a step back for us. But we'd love to make that switch as the Telerik controls look very nice and offer a few interesting new features for us.

Since about four months I've been watching Telerik closely. And all this time it's the only thing that prevents us from using it. Hope this is finally arriving with the Q3 release.

Regards,
Marc

Hi Marc,

Most probably multi-touch support for zooming in RadMap for WPF will be implemented in the 2012.Q3 release, as well as several enhancements in the RadMap for WPF engine.

Hello Leonardo,

The multi-touch support for zooming in RadMap for WPF is expected to be available with the 2012.Q3 release. Q3 2012 is scheduled for the mid-October.

Is there any update on this matter? I am looking at acquiring Telerik, and multi-touch / pinch zoom for the WPF Map control will be the deciding factor at the moment...
