Mono support for telerik win controls would be really useful.  I'm about to start a project that needs to run forms on Windows, Linux and Mac and would like to be able to use telerik win controls.

Support for Mono would also be a great thing for telerik from an advertising standpoint. The Mono project is really starting to build up steam in the development community and only a few control providers currently support it.

Hi Bradley,

Thank you for contacting us. Currently, we do not provide official support for Mono under Linux.

Although there are some customers who have running implementations of r.a.d.controls there are still some methods which are not implemented in Mono and some of the configurations of our controls can not work as expected.

We are working closely with Miguel de Icaza's team and we are committed to make our controls fully compatible with the Mono framework in the coming months.

Kind regards,
Paul

Hello Jason,

We are currently researching possibilities to provide Mono Support for our products. For our ASP.NET controls, we are close to resolving all outstanding issues/missing features in the Mono Framework together with Miguel de Icaza's team (Acknowledgements to their willingness to cooperate with us!). However, things are a little bit more complex with the WinForms controls. We will need some more time to research for the best way to offer Mono support and still keep our Win API calls. Our top priority for the WinForms controls for the coming months is to make sure we have a framework which is reliable and fast in all tested use cases and then we could extend it with support for the Mono platform.

Hi Bradley Lane,

Thank you for your continued interest in Mono support.

Although there are some customers who have running implementations of the ASP.NET r.a.d.controls under Mono, there are still some methods which are not implemented in Mono and some of the configurations of our controls do not work as expected.
Running our WinForms controls under Mono proves to be a major challenge, as things do not look good there at all. Our research shows that Mono misses some major methods on this front and much time will be needed until it offers proper support for Windows Forms.

Miguel has promised his support and we will do our best to provide Mono support in the future. Our current plans are to try and get all ASP.NET controls running under Mono and then we will check our options for the WinForms controls. Please do not get your hopes high - this will require a lot of work on behalf of the Mono team, so this will not happen in the next several months.

We will be glad to keep you updated if anything new pops up.

Sincerely yours,
Rob

Hi Telerik,

Has there been any progress with getting telerik win controls working with mono?

Do you still have the intention of supporting mono in the future?

Please keep the dream alive!

Thanks,
Brad

Hi Brad,

So far we have not had much progress in the Mono support, due to some limitations of the Mono framework. As Miguel mentioned here on 6/14/2007, we did report several problems with using Win32 API under Mono.

Our willingness to provide full Mono support is still strong, and we will do our best to be the first to offer Mono support as soon as the framework provides the needed functionality.

All the best,
Rob

Can you give us a rough hint on when you officially will support ASP.NET rad.Controls on MONO and offer technical support on that too?

I'm solely talking about asp.net, not on win forms or WPF or even silverlight. I'm talking about pure xhtml output of the controls.

Hello Patrick,

This forum discusses our WinForms controls. The ASP.NET Mono support is discussed extensively in this forum. Please, review the latest posts and let us know if you have any questions.

What is the current status of the winform controls running on Linux/OS X??  Nothing has been said, that I can find, by a Telerik employee on the forums for over a year on Winforms and Mono.  If it's still up in the air, mark down another vote for Mono support.
My current product has to support Mac OS X and the ability to use Telerik would have been awesome.  I know Mono has come along way with Winforms support recently, hopefully it helps with Telerik support.

Hi Mark,

I think you will find that telerik have thrown mono support for win forms into their "too hard basket", because the Win32 API calls they are using are not handled by the current version of mono..

Brad

Hi D,

RadControls for WinForms do not support Mono, because they use some native Windows classes, which are not available in .NET, Mono, nor Linux. At this time we do not have plans to offer these classes as part of RadControls for WinForms, due to the amount of work required to write these from scratch.

In case you are after our ASP.NET tools, they do support Mono and you can review them at your leisure.

Hi Brad,

Thank you for your interest.

As stated in previous posts from this thread, adding mono support for our controls will be a huge task. I admit that the mono project is now more mature and stable than ever before, however our controls call Windows functions that have no alternatives in mono. Moreover our controls are grown and now are more complex, which makes the task more time consuming.

Creating a framework which supports different platforms had always been a challenging task. Currently there are newer technologies with greater potential in this area. For example I would recommend you to consider Silverlight and its mono based version - Moonlight.

In conclusion, we just want to be sure that this is the right development direction according to our customers opinion. If more people request the feature, we can reconsider our plans.

Should you have any other questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Jack

Hello Shruti,

This is not officially supported and we have not performed any tests with it. In theory, it should work but at this point, we cannot guarantee this.

Should you have any other questions do not hesitate to ask.

Hello, Visakh,

Linux OS is officially not supported.

Please have a look at the system requirements for the Telerik UI for WinForms suite: https://www.telerik.com/winforms/tech-sheets/system-requirements
