Hi,

After installing the Telerik Reporting tool I could still not see any templates in Visual Studio 2005. There seems to be no ItemTemplate folder in the VS directory where i believe these files are kept. What am I missing here??

Thanks

Hello Phillip,

Unfortunately it is unclear what is wrong with installation. Can you check whether the "new item" templates are placed in:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\CSharp
    and C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\VisualBasic

The only reason to not see the new item templates in VS 2005 is if these folders
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplatesCache\CSharp
    and C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplatesCache\VisualBasic

do not contain a file Telerik_Reporting_Q2_2008.zip

Please, do not hesitate to contact us if the problem still exists.

Thanks Hrisi,

Unfortunately my ItemTemplatesCache does not contain a Telerik_Reporting_Q2_2008.zip file.

Will re-install fix this problem?

Hello Phillip,

One possible reason for the missing templates is missing Visual Studio 2005 (see System Requirements). Another possibility is un-selecting Visual Studio 2005 support during install.

The easiest way to recover installation is to un-install and then install again.

Let us know if you have other questions - we will be glad to help.

Hi Hrisi,

I've re-installed the reporting tools but still no luck. I made sure
Visual Studio 2005 support was selected during the install as mentioned. When I got to Visual Studio > About I can see Telerik Reporting as one of the installed products and I even have a Telerik Reporting tab on the main navigation within visual studio. I still seem to be missing the .zip files in my file system however, and cannot create a visual studio telerik report.

Based on your system requirements, I seem to meet all the prerequisites. I'm using Windows XP, .NET framework 2.0, Visual Studio 2005. I'm using the latest install files supplied: 'TelerikReporting_Q2_2008_trial_setup.msi'.

Is there anyway I can download the missing files without running the installation?

Thanks,
Phil

Hi Phillip,

In order to manually place the templates you can follow these steps:
  1. Close Visual Studio
  2. Extract attached templates in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE folder
  3. Run Visual Studio command prompt
  4. Run command devenv /installVSTemplates
Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Hi Steve,

I still couldn't see the templates so i installed a new version of Visual Studio 2008 which seemed to do the trick. For whatever reason, my visual studio was also missing the command prompt which led me to believe the problem was with my copy of Visual Studio.

Thanks for all your help in sorting out the problem.

Regards,
Phil

Hi Phillip,

We're glad you've nailed down the problem. Probably reinstalling VS2005 should have resolved it as well, if the issue is indeed a corrupted installation.

Best wishes,
