OK, I finally was able to open the sample and get it to work.
However, if I define my list as 3 across and I do not have a multiple of 3 objects, e.g. 5 objects, the last one renders as an empty label. Is there any way to supress this?
You can use conditional formatting to hide borders and items if the running field's value is null.
The attached demo report illustrates the settings suggested above.
For anyone interested, the demo report uses the setting from How to: Create Multi-Column Report - Across the Page and Then Down.
I hope this information is helpful.

Stef, thanks for the hint. However, I could not get this to work.
I have defined two items on a label, a picturebox and a textbox, both of which have a Solid BorderStyle and 1pt BorderWidth. The labels are arranged 3 across. When I pass a containing 47 items, the last one appears as two blank rectangles with borders.
I defined one of the Conditional Formatting rules as show in the attachment - either Null or <Blank> results in the same display as the attachment.
I have tried to set the Layout to not Visible, the Edges Border Default color to White, and the Line Style Color to White, but the borders still show. I have also tried to tick the Stop if True with the same result.
What am I missing?
Please test to use the IsNull built-in function or "Is Null" in the expression part of the rule. The suggestion is illustrated in the modified report attached to my previous post.
Also check what styles are used for items to avoid messing report and external stylesheets with inline styles - Style Inheritance and Overriding.
