Hello Telerik,

I am concerned that the only development for the Reporting product is the stand alone Report Designer. The current RoadMap and the last couple releases seem to focus, almost exclusively, on this.

Are there intentions of updaing functionality in the standard development side of things?

Thanks,
John S.

I think this question lacks content. What is the reason for asking, what is the functionality you need, the clearer the question, the better. My personal observation is that the standalone designer was tremendously wanted (search for end user designer in these forums) and it is nothing but expected that telerik put their efforts into making it count. From my usage so far I see it is pretty much the same designer as in the integrated VS designer, but with more UI goodies i.e. user friendly. So my personal opinion is that they would be both developed side by side and we would not see much difference in functionality in both, but first the standalone would have to catch up with the old one ...

My 2 cents.

Although I could, I wasn't trying to put a wish list together. There are issues I have brought up in the past that I have been told are being worked on (we're talking years here).

So over the course of the last couple updates I have not seen any new features other than the stand alone report designer.

Q1 2012 - Fixes and a Beta Stand Alone Designer

Q2 2012 - Fixes and Non Beta Stand Alone Designer

Q3 2012 - Template, Import, and Connection features for Stand Alone Report Designer

So how does my question lack content?

The last 3 releases have contained no new features for the standard report desgner. So this mean in the year 2012 no new features have been added to standard report designer. This is a pretty good indication they have stopped development of a product (it seems stand alone designer is going to be a seperate product)

So my questions is simple. Is there a future for the standard reporting control? I would expect an answer of Yes or No with a brief explanation of why development of new functionailty has ceased in 2012.

A "wish list" is what I had in mind exactly. According to me (see my previous opinion) the standalone is just catching up. telerik could explain whether I'm on the right track or not, but all due respect, I do not think they owe to explain themselves to you or me, especially if you haven't listed what you're still waiting for. They might have your list of features, but why did you open a forum instead of ticket if you do not want to post them for others to see?

I am asking what I think is a valid question. This question is asking for direction as far as the product is concerned. I am not saying they 'owe' me anything. They can choose not to answer.

I pay for a subscription that would seemingly include some new features with each release. These features may be things I need/want OR they can be things I may not be thinking of and help in my development. Why must I as a user come up with ideas*. I am not saying it is wrong to ask or wrong to suggest, but in the end they are developing the product.

With this said, for the most part telerik does a fantastic job and I am not writing this post to antagonize. I could write a private support ticket but chose not to.

I am unsure why this question has raised this type of response. It is pretty simple I thought. There's nothing to hide, I have other posts that ask about specific features that have not been implemented in which I either need or would benefit from some serious updates.

*by the way, telerik has always come up with some cool products and features I wouldn't have thought of.

Hello John,

Yes Telerik Reporting is still being developed and the standalone designer is integral part of the product. It is not a separate product as far as we're concerned as it is mainly aimed at developers and power users. We have done various improvements to the reporting engine under the hood, which are invisible for end users, but believe me when we say they take time and are much needed.
We have some aces in our sleeve, but would like to keep it a secret for now. Keep your eyes on the RoadMap and you won't be disappointed.

All the best,
Steve

Steve,

Thanks for the reassurance. I use Telerik Reporting a lot and it was concerning me that things were slowing down. I do understand behind-the-scenes optimizations are important and I did misunderstand the intention of the stand-alone, as I thought it was headed down a seperate product path.

I look forward to seeing what's up in future.

Aside from occasional gripes and irritations (which I think is pretty typical in this world) I very much like the product and enjoy using it.

Best regards,
John S.
