Hello EricSch,

This is generic error of the MS installer and its full name is "Connection or browsing for database servers require MDAC to be installed". Please repair your mdac installation by following one of the available posts here.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for answering.
I should have "Windows DAC 6.0" preinstalled under Win2008.

Could it be a problem because I have everything in 64Bit (OS and SQL -> No 32 Bit Library) ?

Is there a way to install it manually?

Thanks
Eric

Hello EricSch,

We took a time to install SQL 2008 on Vista 64 machine and could not reproduce the problem you describe.
Anyway this does not limit you in any way to use our product. You can install it without the examples and still use the product with your custom database or any other supported datasource.

All the best,

Hi,

Just to let you know, I just received the same error using SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition with Windows XP + SP3 (32 Bit).

Was trying to install the Q1 2009 version..

Brad

Hi,

My solution was to reinstall SQL2008 with the correct settings.
New for SQL2008 is, that by default nobody has access to the database.
During installation you need to add a user as administrator explicitly.

I haven't done that because I thought I can change it later (like with SQL2005).
But this doesn't work anymore.
