Hi

I am installing the RadControls for WinForms Q3 2009 and finding the installer is locking up. The status bar states "Updating Visual Studio 2005 Templates" and the progress bar is complete. But it just sits there.

I am running Win7 x64, running the installer as Administrator. VS 2008 + 2010 beta 2 are installed. Neither is running during the installation.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Thanks

Tom

Hi,

Did you try to not install the templates and install them manually as in this KB (http://www.telerik.com/support/kb/winforms/forms-and-dialogs/installing-telerik-templates-in-visual-studio-2-8.aspx). Perhaps, in this way you will skip that part and the installation will finish.

By the way, I am using the latest version Q3 2009 and everything works ok for me. I think that there is a new installer Telerik released in this release.

Hi,

I am having the same problem as Tom. However I am running XP sp3. I also seem to be having trouble uninstalling the AJAX Q2 controls.

Just as a further note I restarted the machine and I do seem to have the controls installed, at least VS2008 can see them and all the files seem to be there. When I restart the installer it tries to complete the install and hangs, it hangs, but it seems to be waiting for something. My theory is it is looking for something from the web that hasn't arrived. I'm going to look at the KB article, maybe that will shed some light. If anyone knows how to knock the installer on the head, please let me know.

Regards

Mike

Hello Michael Allen,

We are not aware what causes the issue, but our educated guess is that it is called by VS 2005. Do you have VS2005 installed or did you have an installation of VS2005 on your machines before?

Kind regards,
Nick

As I started the thread with the problem I thought I reply - Visual studio 2005 is not installed on my computer.

Cheers

Hello Tom John,

Thanks for writing back and excuse us for the delay. We needed some time to figure out the problem. It seems that somehow a registry record has been made that indicates that VS 2005 is installed on your machine. This is the following key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\SxS\VS7]

Could you please check whether a record with Name "8.0" exists in the path above? Our installer looks for the values in this path and if it finds the "8.0" version, it attempts to install the templates. The possibility that SDK insert this record in the registry is also realistic but we are not yet sure whether this is the case.

So, we look forward to receiving the requested details. Thanks for your time.

Kind regards,

Peter

Hello Michael Allen,

Thank you for the provided information.

This registry key can be the cause for the problem. You can un-select integration with VS 2005 and add manually the controls in the VS 2005 toolbox if you need them there.

Don't hesitate to contact us if you have other questions.

FYI I am having the same problem. VS2005 is not installed (VS2008 & VS 2010 are). The Registry keys present are HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0, ... 9.0, ... Debugger  (3 keys). The installer stalls right near the end of a progress bar updating the VS 2005 templates & msiexec.exe pegs out at 50% CPU. Also, fyi, there are 2x msiexec.exe processes running. The busy msiexec process could not be stopped in the task manager - I had to reboot the PC to stop it.

After a reboot, a complete install fails again. After another reboot excluding Visual Studio 2005 options ("Never Run") succeeds. I think you need to have a more robust way of checking for VS2005's absence.

This is with build RadControls_WinForms_2010_1_218_trial_beta

Hello Mike Elnar,

Thank you for writing.
We cannot reproduce this issue on our test environment with Q1 2010. Can you please, run the installer with logging enabled and send us the log file for examination (Install.log)? Here are the steps for that:
•   Open a command prompt;
•   Navigate to the folder, where the RadControls for WinForms installer is located;
•   Run the following command:
RadControlsForWinForms.exe /log Install.log
I look forward your response.

Regards,
Peter
