HOW-TO
Manually add RadControls for WinForms to the Toolbox in Visual Studio

SOLUTION
There are two ways to manually add RadControls for WinForms to the Toolbox in your Visual Studio, also demonstrated in the video at the end of this article:

Using the Visual Studio menus:

  1. Right-click the Toolbox in the Visual Studio and then choose Add Tab to create a new tab. Name the tab "Telerik RadControls for WinForms"
  2. Right-click the empty space in the newly created tab and select Choose Items. A dialog window will open. It lists all available controls from the assemblies in the GAC.
  3. Sort the assemblies by name and navigate to Telerik assemblies. Then choose the corresponding Telerik Controls, except for FilteredPropertyGrid control.
  4. Click OK button.

Using the drag-drop approach:

  1. Right-click the Toolbox in the Visual Studio and then choose Add Tab to create a new tab. Name the tab "Telerik RadControls for WinForms"
  2. Open the Telerik assemblies folder. If you have installed the controls with in the default folder, then it would be this directory: "C:\Program Files\Telerik\RadControls for WinForms [version]\bin"
  3. Select these assemblies and drag-drop them to the empty space in the newly created tab:
    • Telerik.WinControls.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.GridView.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.RadChart.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.RadDock.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.RadMarkupEditor.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Scheduler.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Aqua.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Breeze.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Themes.BreezeExtended.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Desert.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Miscellaneous.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Office2007Black.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Office2007Silver.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Office2010.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Telerik.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Vista.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Windows7.dll
    • Telerik.WinControls.UI.dll

I have Visual Studio 2003/2005/2008 on my PC. By some strange reason the radtools was only visible in VS2005 - not in VS2008. Using this article I solved the problem easily! :)

Also add the Themes files if you have the 2008 Q2 release. e.g. Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Desert.dll; Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Office2007Black.dll; Telerik.WinControls.Themes.Miscellaneous.dll etc
