The latest Q3 SP2 release of RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX introduced appearance problem that prevents the toolbar icons to be displayed when using an external skin.
Due to optimization changes made in the Q3 SP2 release (Telerik.Web.UI.dll v.2008.3.1314), the editor's tools sprites were moved to a single location for all skins. We use automatic skin converter which parses RadControls skins and does path replacement before those are included in the build. Unfortunately, the skin converter was not written in a manner to handle the location change properly and it set wrong paths for the toolbar sprites in the Editor.<Used_Skin_Name>.css
We will assist anyone who experiences this appearance problem to solve it. Just send us a sample working project along with your external skin in a support ticket. We will modify it and send you back the fixed skin.
We are currently enhancing the RadControls' skins and I would like to share a small list of improvements:
- The icons of RadEditor already use png's instead of gif's which has immensely improved the appearance of the control;
- The icons inside the command sprite are better aligned inside the buttons;
- We are moving towards equalization of the dimensions of all skins, so now with RadEditor you may use any skin without concerns in broking your layout.
You can find more information about the skin modifications in this blog post: http://blogs.telerik.com/blogs/09-02-23/RadControls_for_ASP_NET_AJAX_receive_a_major_face-lift.aspx. Since there are major changes in the skins we will gladly assist anyone who experience problems to update its old skins to the new ones. We will also publish detailed instructions how the skins works and how to create new ones.
