Hi, I'm new to telerik reporting and I admit that I have never tried this before.
I'm looking for an answer if my scenario is possible with telerik reporting:

I want to have an engine for displaying report that I will include in my web app for the client (one institution) with a couple of predefined reports. However, the requirement is that those reports will need to be flexible and the client should be able to modify them and create others. So, it seems like I would like to have a component that would  be able to run a wizard on the installed app and let the business admin generate report templates that he will place on the site, so that the users can take advantage of them. Everything without visual studio. Is this scenario possible? - I doubt, but it doesn't hurt to ask. If no? is there any other way to include new reports on the site by my client themselves without the need of recompiling ?

thanks

Hello Ɓukasz,

What you're referring to is usually clarified as "end user designer" and unfortunately we still lack such functionality. However it is in our TODO list with high priority, so it would surely make it in our product. Once we have a timeframe (or Q) for its implementation, we would note that in our RoadMap.

Sincerely yours,

I came here looking for the same thing, so please add another "me too" to the request list.

We develop tools for application developers who don't use .NET.  When I get asked for a general purpose reporting tool, it's because my clients and prospects have already looked at Crystal Reports and other tools and found them to be too expensive, limited, complex, or in some other way simply not meeting their needs.  I've thought about recreating something like the Telerik Reporting Designer as a component which I can then build into a larger report creation tool.  But since there are so many other developers who can probably use this, I figured that Telerik would probably be doing this.

Understand that we're not looking for an end-user product.  Any end-user product that Telerik creates for reporting or BI would simply compete with other products in this space.  As developers we need components that we can put into our own reporting and BI solutions, allowing us to create a variety of products at different pricing tiers to meet specific market needs.  So, for example, I'd rather not write a designer, but because my market doesn't work with relational databases I do need to write a component that allows people to select data sources and fields which I will then link into the designer.

It would help if Telerik could give us a better idea of exactly what is planned for a new reporting/BI component so that we can do simultaneous development and then just add the new Telerik component(s) when ready.

Thanks!!

Hello TonyG,

Actually the end user designer we have in mind would be a feature that would be competition to the other available reporting solutions. Our product is still very young (timely speaking), so we're catching up with other vendors on the market and having a feature available in other solutions is of essence.
Although your suggestion makes sense, it would be very hard to accommodate such functionality, as it is not simply a matter of rendering a report with some components on it, but effectively support the numerous export formats, which is the hard part.

Best wishes,
Steve
