Getting Access to RadComboBox Custom attributes during WS load on demain

I'm hoping this is a simple question but I am struggling with how to do this.   I have a template column inside a RadGrid that contains a RadCombobox that I want to load on demand using a WS call.  I have everything working except I can't figure out how I can access a custom attribute that I've added to the combobox so its value can be passed as context.  I know how to pass the text (if I wanted) but in my case I am trying to store the key for the current row as part of the attributes of the combobox so it can be passed to the WS call.
