Hello,
I think I have a versioning conflict on my machine here.
I have a just renewed the premium collection of Telerik controls and installed the latest ASP Ajax controls today.
I have also just installed DotNetNuke 6.0 Community edition which ships with your ASP Ajax controls BUT an earlier version.
DNN packaged version: 2011.1.519.35
My purchased version: 2011.2.712.40
I'm trying to create a new module for DNN (to test their latest release) and have referenced the Telerik controls that ship with DNN.
When I add any Telerik control to .aspx, I get the "Failed to create designer" error.
I've tried referencing my purchased version (2011.2.712.40) of the controls just to see if those will show up and that works BUT, won't work in DNN because DNN was compiled targeting their packaged version (2011.1.519.35) and I don't want to recompile DNN source.
What do I need to do to get the "free" version (2011.1.519.35) to show up in the designer as that is the version I NEED to use.
Thanks,
Lindsay

Sebastian, I understand that now.
I have to reference the Telerik ASP Ajax assembly that ships with DNN 6.0.0 which is v 2011.1.519.35
I also have the latest purchased version and only the Telerik.Web.Design.dll that is referenced by THAT version, ie: 2011.2.712.40
Do you happen to have a link so that I can download a Telerik.Web.Design.dll that was referenced by the DNN version of your ASP Ajax assembly (v 2011.1.519.35)?
I tried copying the newer version of the design.dll into the same folder (..\DNN_600\bin) where the target ASP Ajax assembly is but it won't display at design time (not even got to runtime yet).
Please advise.
Thanks

Sebastian,
Thanks for that. I'm sure it will eventually help...
I put the designer dll into the same folder as the web.ui dll but nothing worked.
As a "test", I added a reference to the designer dll and it worked, then I removed the reference to the designer dll and it still works
BUT
Visual Studio 2010 runs VERY SLOWLY, menus stay open and won't collapse, clicking the tabs to the different open code files only works after I min/max the app... not good at all.
I close VS and reopen the project. Back to the begin - "Failed to create designer..." error.
It all works and runs well if I actually reference the designer.dll (and keep it referenced) which I should not need to do, right? And I don't want to be referencing that when I go to Release build either, else I'll be packaging the designer! No!
There must be a conflict between my installed version of the Telerik controls (2011.2.712.40) and the one the ships with DNN (2011.1.519.35) that isn't obvious, event to you guys :-)
Had I had known there were issues installing your latest AND trying to work with the DNN version, I'd never have installed the latest...
PLEASE research this and advise me further.
Thanks

Hello Lindsay,
The methods how to address improper references to our design assembly which generate design-time errors are explained in my previous responses.
The slow-down in your VS performance might be related to low hardware resources/memory when operating with large projects - can you check that? Either way, clearing the VS cache and restarting the development environment should mitigate the issue with the performance.

I'm having pretty much the same problem here. I'm using CE DNN version 06.01.02 (98). My installed version of Telerik controls on my machine is 2011.3.1115.40 BUT the Telerik version with my DNN is 2011.2.915.35. Would you please post the design dll for Telerik 2011.2.915.35? or let me know which version of DNN is using Telerik 2011.3.1115.40?
Thanks
