Hello Jeff,

The Styling Reports help section covers the styling of the reports in details and the Exporting and Reusing Style Sheets help article would contain the answer to your question.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely yours,
Steve

Hi Steve,

This article does not answer my question; let me try again.  I want to be able to import a previously exported stylesheet and edit it.

The article you reference explains how to export and reuse it.  I know how to do that; I want to import and edit.  Unless I'm missing something, I would have to make changes in the original report w/the styles and re-export the stylesheet.

My problem is the stylesheet was exported from a report that has since been deleted.  A bunch of other reports use this stylesheet and I need to make changes to it.  So, if all I have is an exported stylesheet (and not the original report that it was exported from), how do I edit it?

Thanks in advance for any help...

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Indeed you are correct that we currently lack a straight-forward way to edit an existing stylesheet from the report designer and we would consider a way to be able to do that for future versions of the product.
For the time being, please edit the stylesheet manually with any text editor (it is a standard xml).

Please excuse us for the temporary inconvenience. Your Telerik points have been updated for bringing this to our attention.

Regards,
Steve

Hello,

Telerik, has this issue been solved since your reply in January?

It would be great to have a single stylesheet that many reports use (as an external stylesheet) and edit it in a single place, without having to have a dummy or master report where that stylesheet is defined.

Thanks
Bruno

Is there any progress on providing an external style sheet editor?

Hello Tim,

Providing separate editor for the stylesheets is not in our immediate plans, however you can still edit the stylesheet manually with any text editor (it is a standard xml) or modify the original report that contains the stylesheet and export it once you have made all necessary changes.

All the best,
Steve

The work-around I'm using is I've created a report called TemplateReport.cs in my project and have defined the styles there. Then I export those styles to an .xml file and point my "real" reports to that .xml file. Then whenever I need to change a "global" style I just open the template report, make the edits to the styles, then export the styles into the .xml file again. All the reports then pick up the edited style settings. Beats manually changing the style info manually in each report!

Can't believe we're 3 years into this being a limitation...and it's still not fixed.

Seems that we're only getting minor bug fixes (and constant API changes) while the standalone designer gets all the love.  Same issues I've had for years with reporting are all still alive and well.

Hi Steve,

You (as Telerik MVP) should know that our company operates in a dynamic environment and features are considered depending on the interest for a given feature, the usability of the feature, whether it is a minor/major feature, whether there is a workaround available for it and last but not least whether we are able to deliver the feature with the "Telerik" quality users are used to.

With respect to the standalone designer, we would have to disagree - a quick look at the Q3 2012 SP1 release notes shows that there are only 6 bugs for it.

In short, our suggestion is to keep an eye on the product RoadMap for more info on upcoming features.

All the best,
Steve
