Hi All,

This might just be my lack of M$ Word skills, but how do you add / edit text outside of the nested tables that are generated from an exported report, Html Viewer - export to word, as l can not seem to figure it out.

If l use export to RTF and then open /edit with word it all works fine and l can move my cursor outside of the tables and add text etc. At first l thought maybe it was my report but trying one of the online Telerik Demo reports exported to Word, gives me the same amount of frustrations.

Typing inside the tables is fine, but l would like to add stuff after the tables, my version of word is the desktop office 2013.

Thanks in advance

Paul.

Hello Paul,

The Word rendering mechanism is based on native Word tables, which can contain other nested tables - Design Considerations for Word Rendering.

If you need to display more information in the report, our suggestion is to add the elements on designing the report, which will allow users to type the text later. You can also make the additional fields display data or the values of report parameters, which the user can fill on previewing the report.

Stef

Hi Steff,

Thanks for the reply but l have logged this a bug for various reasons.

1. I have created word docs in the past (programmatically) and had no problems adding to the created document .

2. The end users of the report would just be totally confused (as am I / was) and it would cause numerous support requests.

3. If you cannot add or edit a document in the way that you would like then really there is a problem with that document (excluding it being readonly or locked of course).

Without dragging this out off the top of my head just adding an empty paragraph after the nested tables should work fine.

Paul

Hello Paul,

There were also other inquiries for updating the Word Rendering mechanism to allow manual post processing.
The existing rendering mechanism produces nested Word tables which are harder for editing, which is the reason to suggest you the approach of adding more items which can be bound to report parameters or other expressions bringing the user's input. By editing the report before exporting it, the user will not have to make further adjustments in MS Word.

Please feel free to log a feature request for having changes in the Word Rendering easing the manual editing of the document.

Stef

Hi,

I am grateful for advice / input but l am sorry, to me this is bug, which l have logged, Teleriks own document processing library seems to manage producing an editable word document. What is the point of word document that you can not edit properly it just makes no sense to me.

Hi Paul,

This is considered as a missing functionality but not something that breaks the report after the upgrade for example. Thus, we will log this as a feature request into our feedback portal.
We have also updated your Telerik points to thank you for providing us with your feedback.

Hi Paul,

We have just logged a request for easier editing of Word documents produced by Telerik Reporting - Easier editing of reports exported to Word format.

We would appreciate if you let us know your expectations for this task and your opinion on this subject in the comments to this request.
