I have VS2010 and SL4. I installed reporting Q2 2010. Tried to drag a report viewer on a page of a 'Silverlight Business App' and I got that error... any idea?

Furthmore. I am using WCF RIA services so will the report see the domain services as a data source? Or how would I bind the data?

Hello matt,

Thank you for your interest in Telerik Reporting.

Prior to adding the Silverlight Report Viewer you have to download and install RadControls for Silverlight. The Silverlight report viewer depends on the following  assemblies:

RadControls for Silverlight assemblies:

  • Telerik.Windows.Controls.dll
  • Telerik.Windows.Controls.Input.dll
  • Telerik.Windows.Controls.Navigation.dll

Telerik ReportViewer assembly:

  • Telerik.ReportViewer.Silverlight.dll

For a demo project you can check out the demos that came with your installation of Telerik Reporting:
Start -> All Programs -> Telerik -> Reporting Q2 2010.

For a video how-to check out Getting Started with Telerik Report Viewer for Silverlight.

I have the same problem. I downloaded & installed Telerik Reporting, I don't see these in the bin folder:

  • Telerik.Windows.Controls.dll
  • Telerik.Windows.Controls.Input.dll
  • Telerik.Windows.Controls.Navigation.dll
I'm using VS 2010 Ultimate, does your reporting work with this version ?

    Hello Luc,

Telerik Reporting is working with Visual Studio 2010 Professional Edition, Premium Edition and Ultimate Edition. For more information on the topic check out the System Requirements page.

About the assemblies as I have explained in my previous post: "Prior to adding the Silverlight Report Viewer you have to download and install RadControls for Silverlight. The Silverlight report viewer depends on the following assemblies:

    RadControls for Silverlight assemblies:
    • Telerik.Windows.Controls.dll
    • Telerik.Windows.Controls.Input.dll
    • Telerik.Windows.Controls.Navigation.dll"
in other words these assemblies are not part of Telerik Reporting and that is the reason they are not present in the bin folder. However as we present demo Silverlight application, you can find those assemblies in C:\Program Files\Telerik\Reporting Q2 2010\Examples\CSharp\SilverlightDemo\bin i.e. miss the step of installing another suite.
    All the best,
    Peter

I was just testing out the trial version of Telerik reports and I had the same problem.... It was rejecting me every time I tried to simply drag a report viewer to a Silverlight page.... That's a big strike against Telerik for me... When you sell a standalone software package it should be ready to go out of the box with all the files it needs to work. You should NOT be forced to buy another s/w package just to get the first one you bought going... That's crazy!!!! And even having to search for the files manually is rediculous..... Simply include all those needed files on the installation.... Is that too hard to do? LOL....

    Hi Mike,

My colleague Peter has already explained that the RadControls for Silverlight assemblies we depend on for the Silverlight viewer are available in the Silverlight demo application i.e. C:\Program Files\Telerik\Reporting Q3 2011\Examples\CSharp\SilverlightDemo\bin and you do not have to purchase another product to use the Silverlight viewer.

    All the best,
