I am getting the error message below during installation.  I get the same error when attempting to un-install.  I have Visual Web Developer Express and SQL Server Express installed.  This happened on two computers.

Error 1722.  There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Hi Curtis,

We saw the issue in our installer and we are currently researching it. It will be resolved in the next CTP.

All the best,

We are sorry about the installation problems, Fandy.

The next CTP with this problem fixed will be available either next week or the first week of January. Unfortunately, we cannot send it to you earlier as it is not ready for public use yet.

I downloaded the newer version of Reporting.  When I installed it I still cannot uninstall the first version.  Also I am unable to run the examples provided in the newer version.  I can send the error message if it would be helpful.

We also cannot uninstall the first version. Same issue on XP Pro and Vista RC2 build 5744 (yes I know you don't officially support Vista but support would be nice to have).

This is also preventing us from installing CTP2.

Hello guys,

Can you try removing the first version with the Windows Installer CleanUp utility? You can find it here. Then try to install the second CTP. Have in mind that on Vista you have to install the second CTP with administrative privileges. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm having the same issue on Windows Server 2003 SP1, VS 2003.   I can't install and I can't uninstall.  The error is the same both and is the error originally described.

I've been trying to see if this is supported by VS2003 but I can't find any documentation.

Thanks!

On my XP box, removing CTP1 with msizap actually caused msizap to crash.

It turns out on that particular box, I'd installed Reporting CTP1, used it, then uninstalled SQL Express, then tried to uninstall CTP1.

I think that's why CTP2 setup might have been crashing.

I have reinstalled SQL Express but haven't tried to install CTP2 again yet - I'll keep you informed.

Regards
Tom

Robert, you can use the Reporting tool only with VS 2005. Most probably this is the cause for the installation problem.

Tom, thanks for notifying us for this case. We'll make the necessary modifications to fix the uninstall process when the SQL Server has been previously removed.

My install of CTP2 seemed to work except for one error message telling me i needed a compatible version of Microsoft J# .NET Redistributable Package to be installed. First time i have ever run into that. Do i actually need to do that, or is there an issue with the install? drew..

edit: i dropped the redistributable in, no worries, .. is the reporting tool based on J#, or just a portion thereof? or just an errant reference perhaps? I must admit to complete ignorance on the language..

Hello drew,

The telerik Reporting in no way depends on the J# language for .NET and we’ve never experienced such a problem. It seems to me that this problem is caused by Visual Studio 2005. I would suggest installing the missing package and then installing the Reporting tool again.

that is exactly what i did, but i tend to try not to install anything into my dev environment unless i absolutely have to..  but it installed fine after that. It would be interesting to know if others see this error message, but perhaps most install the entire VS package.. cheers, drew..
