Hello Aaron,
The chart engine has been designed in the context of this being a web control, while we are trying to use it in our reporting product, which inner workings are quite different. Although you do not see a list of the columns in the series data properties, you would be able to specify their names manually. We're aware that this is poor user experience and it is in our TODO list to improve the chart item.
