I have a project created in Windows XP, Visual Studio 2008 & Telerik Rad Controls Q2 2009 SP1 (I think Q2 2009 SP1).

I have upgraded to Windows 7 and Visual Studio 2010 and Telerik Rad Controls Q1 2010 SP2.

I am now getting the following error in my browser:

Could not load file or assembly 'Telerik.Web.UI' or one of its dependencies.This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime andcannot be loaded.

I have searched and read many threads, but all attempts lead to nothing. I have the correct files in my local bin folder and can find no reference relating to the error in my web.config file.

I need some assistance to solve the issue.

Below is the full error displayed in my browser:

Hi Matt,

It seems that you've used a Telerik.Web.UI assembly built against a higher version of the .NET Framework than the TargetFramework of the current project. This most often happens when a project, targeting .NET Framework 3.5 has been created in Visual Studio 2010 and it has been populated with the Telerik.Web.UI assembly in the Bin40 folder.

Can you check the following so that I can help you with an exact suggestion?
  • What's the TargetFramework setting of your project?
  • What's the version of the Telerik.Web.UI assembly?

Kind regards,
Erjan Gavalji

Hi Matt,

Okay, it seems everything is correct from a project point of view.
Is it an HTTP-based website/web application? In that case, it could be that the application has not been configured to use .NET Framework 4.0 in IIS.
Can you check that through the Internet Information Services snap-in?

FYI, you could install the ASP.NET 4.0 runtime to IIS by running the following command:
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe -i

Hi Wong,

Please, check the web.config file. It could be that the Telerik.Web.UI assembly versioned 2009.3.1208.20 is referenced there.

I have a similar problem as Wong and I have checked my Web.config fiel and it is not referencing a specific version so I am not sure where the error is coming from?

The TargetFramework setting of my project is: .Net Framework 3.5;

The
version of the Telerik.Web.UI assembly is: Product Version: 2010.2.713.35;

Could not load file or assembly 'Telerik.Web.UI, Version=2009.2.701.35, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=121fae78165ba3d4' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference.

Hi Martina,

I believe there is a GAC reference in your website, referring to the Telerik.Web.UI assembly from an Internal Build or Beta release (2010.2.701.35) and you try using the Latest Official release (2010.2.713.35) . Can you open the web.config file (as well as any other pages that could have a <%@ Register TagPrefix="telerik".. %> directive) and update the Telerik.Web.UI assembly version?

Hi Erjan,

I have a similar error shown when running the application.

Could not load file or assembly 'Telerik.Reporting.VsPackage' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded.

My Project Details:

Visual Studio 2012
Target Framework: 3.5
Telerik RadControls for ASP version: 2013_3_1114

FYI:

<runtime>

<assemblyBinding appliesTo="v2.0.50727" xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">

<dependentAssembly>

<assemblyIdentity name="System.Web.Extensions" publicKeyToken="xxxxx" />

Hello John,

Thank you for contacting us!

The problem that you have described is really strange. The assembly that you have mentioned is not intended for use in your project. It is the Visual Studio package of the Telerik Reporting designer. More over it requires .net framework 4.0 or newer.

Can you describe in more details what is your scenario and why do you use the Telerik.Reporting.VsPackage assembly?

Regards,
Petar

Hi Petar,

Thank You for the quick reply. I never wanted to use telerik reporting. All I wanted to use was RadControls for asp.net ajax and I am a newbee with Telerik. Telerik Reporting was already installed on the server and I converted my web application to radcontrol web application. I get this error when I debug the application. I have working around to solve this and since I invested lot of time and move forward, I created a NEW Telerik RadControls Web Application (.NET framework 3.5). Now, I have a new issue: I used a radscriptmanager and a datepicker. When I run the application I get this error: 'Telerik' is undefined. Please find below for the html and web.config. It would be really great if you can help me with this issue as I dont want to get stuck.

Hi John,

Could you send us the full error message? A screenshot of the error would be helpful as well. Could you also provide more details about what installation method have you used?

Regards,
