Support team,

I am exploring a trial of Telerik. I have installed the Reports Server on a remote windows server. and it is running. I have made users in the User Management and given them all the permissions.

In the Telerik Report Designer, running on my local machine, I am trying to Add A Report Server. I entered the server URL from my server, then the local user and pwd.

I get the error "Error while logging into the server. Please check the URL and credentials."

I assume I have the right URL. It came from the setting screen on the reports server. I saw another user's ticket with this issue, from years ago, and it suggested installing Fiddler and sending the logs. I have installed Fiddler, but do not know how to simulate logging into the reports server.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Amy

Hello Amy,

Thank you for the provided information!

Indeed, a network log from the Fiddler Classic application could help since it would give us more details about the error. You may visit the Create a Session Archive Zip (SAZ) Traffic Archive - Fiddler Classic (telerik.com) article for instructions on how to create the log.

Once you have started recording the log, reproduce the error with the designer and it should automatically be captured by Fiddler.

Additionally, it may help to create a trace log. You may visit the Standalone Report Designer Problems Troubleshooting - Telerik Reporting article for details on how to generate this log from the report designer application.

Without knowing more details about the error I could only guess that the problem could be related to CORS. Please make sure that CORS is enabled in the Report Server - Cors - Telerik Report Server:

If you need further assistance, please attach the trace and fiddler logs as zips to your reply and I will check them out. In the meantime, please consider giving a try to the built-in the Report Server application Web Report Designer - Web Report Designer - Telerik Report Server.

I will be looking forward to receiving an update from you.

Regards,
Dimitar

Hi Amy,

Thank you for the attached files!

I see no exceptions in the log of the Standalone Report Designer, however, in the Fiddler log, the request made to the /Token endpoint used with the credentials to log in, is returning status code 502 and the following exception message:

502 - [Fiddler] DNS Lookup for "ec2amaz-1dh37b0" failed. System.Net.Sockets.SocketException No such host is known

Are you able to access the server from http://ec2amaz-1dh37b0:83 URL on the machine where the Standalone Report Designer is used? You may try connecting to it in the browser.

You may find more troubleshooting suggestions for this problem in the following threads:

If your PC can resolve the address of the hosted server when connecting it via its DNS name but the Standalone Report Designer still fails to connect, you may try to get a trace log from the Report Server application instead - Troubleshoot Report Server Manager - Telerik Report Server.
