Hi Guys,

Don't know if it's me, but I can't find the client-side data binding features (as per RadGrid).  My understanding was that RadListView was a more adaptive method for binding data (as per the videos I have seen).  Can you provide me an update or better still an example of this working.

Thks, David

Hello David,

RadListView for ASP.NET AJAX does not support client-side binding in its current version. We will consider this new feature for inclusion after the ASP.NET 4 version of the framework is announced officially.  The new major version of .NET will introduce client-side templates which can be adapted to the template model of RadListView and subsequently allow client binding through web services.

The ETA for ASP.NET 4 is in the early spring of year 2010. More information about the client templates and their heuristics can be found in these sources:

Hi,

I wanted to follow up on this to see if client-side binding has been added to the RadListView.

I can't seem to find a definitive answer if web services can be used yet with this control.  Can you please give us an update or fill me in what I might be missing?

Thanks!
Chris

Hi Chris,

I'm afraid that currently, ASP.NET 4.0 does not include the client-side templates as they have been pushed to ajax script library (part of Ajax Control Toolkit).
From this blog post, it seems that MS will not invest in their own templates but encourage people to use of jQuery's templates instead. Therefore we currently does not have plans to immediately include built-in support for asp templates, but more likely will consider providing demos of how to use them with some of RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX. A basic implementation of RadListView's client-binding can be found in this blog post.
