Is it possible to off-load the Report Processing to a client-side Silverlight application, instead of processing the Report Definition and Data on the server side to produce the Report Instance?

Hello Paul,

In the current version the Telerik Report can reside and is processed on the server only. We have plans to introduce something similar for subsequent versions of the product but cannot engage with a specific time frame at this point.

Just as a what-if scenario. What if you had to use silverlight and required that a report be generated when the client is offline. Would you know if it's possible to install a web service on the client's machine that the silverlight application could use to generate the reports.

I've currently encountered this problem and I'm trying to find temporary alternatives since the clients for this application require reports, but may not always be connected to the internet. Another idea that I've been trying to look into is having a small wpf application that would do the reporting which the silverlight application might be able to launch. If you have any alternatives, please let me know since I need to have some sort of offline silverlight reporting.

I eventually settled on hosting the WCF service in a Windows Service. I'm still working out the details, but this should allow me to get the results I need.

Hi,

When do you think the facility to print report in the client side will be incorporated and released? I was checking out Infragistics reporting and it provides the functionality of generating and printing of report on client-side. I think we are missing out on this feature big time. Hope this will get incorporated in next release.

All the best.

I think Telerik will have to respond with a more up to date post. Back then when I wrote my application, I had to use the report system by Stimulsoft which had the capability of generating reports on the client. I have not had the need to do reports in the last few years so I have not been able to revisit Telerik's version to see if they added that capability

WPF reports are client side, not silverlight's.  Silverlight is dead and XAML is not far behind.  I doubt Telerik is going to spend any time making silverlight reports client side, especially when there is more work to do on the HTML reports
