Can't get radwebcam working

Hi,

I have tried the WPF webcam demo and I can't get it to work. Do I have to change any security settings to allow the demo program to access my webcam?

Also the application crash after a few tries taking a picture. If I try recording i crashes directly.

I use WPF Demo 2020 R1 and Telerik Ui for WPF R1 2020.

OS is Win10 Enterprise, Version 1607.

Hello Stefan,

The RadWebCam control uses MediaFoundation to fetch the video stream. This means that a different output will be produced based on the camera device, the hardware supported features and the installed drivers. We are not aware of the specific issue, but it is probably related to one of the previously mentioned factors in combination with the camera control implementation. May I ask you to try the following and let me know how it goes?

  • Can you try the different Video Formats from the drop down in the right menu of the Configurator example (the one from your picture)?
  • Can you disable the audio support of RadWebCam and see if the issue still persists?
  • Can you create a new project with a single RadWebCam and see if the issue is also there? You can see the Getting Started article for a sample code.
  • Can you try an external web camera device if you have any?
  • Can you install the latest video drivers for your video card?
  • Can you check the Output pane of Visual Studio for any errors printed?
  • Can you tell me if the noise in the video format is static or it is moving?

Thanks for the reply.

It's some security setting on my work computer that makes the built in camera disabled. With an external camera I got it to work.

Can you tell me if you were able to resolve this by changing the security setting? And also can you share what is this setting, so if anyone else hit this can try resolving the issue by changing it?

Hi Matrin,

At the moment I don't know what security setting (or user right) causing the problem. But what I did do to get it working was connecting the external camera logged on the computer with an admin account. The camera is then installed with no problem. Then I can log on with my account and then the radwebcam can access the external camera. The internal camera still doesn't work, it does work when I use skype. So it's not totally blocked 

So now I have manage to test what quality I get taking pictures with the external webcam and it turns out it's way to low quality. It's not an expensive webcamera so I could try with an more expensive. But I will try to use an digital camera instead. I saw in another post that it's possible.

I will probably run into same problem then and if I going to deploy an solution with radwebcam the security or user right problem must be solved and I will contact our IT department for help with this. If I get more information about this I will post it here.
