Are there going to be any CAB wrappers for the WinForm controls?  Has anyone tried to wire one up for use with CAB, yet?

Hi Bill,

There is a blog post in our blogs regarding CAB. You can find it here:
http://blogs.telerik.com/blogs/hristo_kosev/archive/2006/11/09/398.aspx
There are also some CAB related projects in  the Code Library:
http://www.telerik.com/community/code-library/downloads/b312H-bhe.aspx

Hope that helps.

Thanks.  The items have been downloaded.  I will tear through them and see how telerik wires things up.  I really appreciate the response!!

The only problem with the CAB support is that A. it is a few months old and very limited in nature, and B. The examples are done in a completely different manners which makes duplication to other controls difficult.  Does Telerik have any plans to come out with full support for CAB

Hi Mickey,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. You're right that we haven't updated the CAB wrappers for awhile and now after the Q1 release it's a good moment for us to update the Code Library project with the latest bits. As for your question whether we'll have full support for CAB, the answer is "yes" but most probably we'll do this gradually depending on our customers' demands. We'll be very grateful if you give us more details about the controls you would like to see in the CAB package and whether you have some specific requirements.
I'm looking forward to your comments/suggestions.

Best regards,
Mike

We are currently using the Dock Manager and Panel, the Panel Bar and the Rad Tab Workspace...  The Demo was good enough to get started, but by no means complete... while we are using it not and it is suitable... there is probably still a bunch of functionality that I am not aware of and do not implement....  so experienced design would be helpful...

The code samples do not appear to have been updated since 11/2006. Have there been any advancements in this area? The SCSF/CAB is used in several of our implementations.

Thanks for any updates.

Hello Chris,

We are actively working on our CAB support and the samples will be updated accordingly. Our plans are to offer full CAB support for our Q2 release in a couple of months, but we will be releasing regular updates until then.

We will be happy if you share any ideas or requests, related to CAB.

The slow nature of CAB adoption is quite discouraging.  I finally got an opportunity to review the code from one of the drops (SmartPartQuickStart).  It is no where close to quick.  I ran into so many holes (missing references, bad paths, etc.) that I have nearly given up.

It is also unfortunate that there has been no additional code drops, even though they have been promised.  Apparently, the Q2 release will have something (???...it is nearly August).

Maybe I am missing something.  Should I give up on the Telerik controls in relation to the CAB thing?

Hi Ling,

Our CAB enabling kit is under active development now. It will be part of the Q2 release, due in mid September.

We will be happy if you share any CAB related ideas or requests that you have. Thank you for your cooperation.

I am just starting a CAB application project (a biggie) and I would really like to use the PanelBar in the app (among other controls).  I will see what I can do to make it work, but I cannot spend too much time on it.

The CAB Enabling Kit sounds interesting.  If I cannot get the control to work, then I will use something else and simply replace it with the CAB-enabled Telerik control when it is available.  That is the nice thing about CAB, eh?  Simple swapping of interface controls without affecting the logic or databinding.

Being patient,
Ling

I would love the CAB Enabling Kit.... so far I have done rough, and I mean very rough, implementations of the Tab and Dock Panel workspaces using Telerik controls, but I imagine the BETA enabling kit would be a bit further along...  Can I possiblly try that out as well...

Regarding the cab wrapper,

at what stage is it?
and does it include all of the telerik controls?
we are using RadGrid, ToolStrip, menu, panel, button, combobox, etc.

we are starting a new project and need to be going up and running pretty fast. we are using scsf.

How do you evaluate the cost time to change windows control to telerik if we decide to switch later on?

Thanks
mateo

Thank you for your interest in our CAB implementation, mateo.

We believe we will finish the initial version of our CAB Enabling Kit till the end of the next week. It will be officially shipped in Q2 2007, due in September.

If you guys want, we can provide the CAB Enabling Kit for testing at the end of next week (or the following Monday). It will be available upon request through our support system (please, do not request it in the Forums as we will not be in the position to send you the download link). The kit will include a sample application, a clone of WPFs Woodgrove Financial application which demonstrates our RadPanelBar, chart, docking and tabbed workspace. RadTabStrip, RadMenu, RadTreeView, and RadCombobox will be addressed as well in the final Q2 deliverable. We will do our best to include RadGridView as well, but we are not sure that time will permit us to do so.

At any rate, let us know if you would like to get the early bits of our CAB implementation.

Best wishes,
Rob

Hi guys,

We are happy to inform you that we have just released the first beta of our CAB Enabling Kit for RadControls for WinForms. The public beta can be downloaded from the newly created CAB Enabling Kit Forum. The forum contains full information on the beta, as well as resources and download links. We have also updated the CAB Support page on our site to reflect on the recent developments on the matter.

The beta of the Telerik CAB Enabling Kit includes the early bits of the upcoming Q2 2007 RadControls for WinForms suite. It comes with a Finance Application modeled after Microsoft's WPF WoodGrove Finance Application.

In case you would like to try the beta, feel free to visit the CAB Enabling Kit Forum. You can post all of your comments and suggestions in the same forum, if needed. The beta is fully supported and we will be happy to hear your feedback.

I will also suggest to subscribe to the Telerik Blogs RSS as we plan to blog on the CAB development regularly. The first post on the topic has already been posted.

Best wishes,
