Dear,

I have made a cross tab report which has drill down both in columns and rows. Now the problem is that when I export this report to pdf; some unnecessary blank pages are inserted in pdf. Also sometimes the column widths become extra long; longer than the design time column length. This behaviour is different with different no. of columns as i drill down on column wise. Sometimes there are blank pages and sometimes there are not. Please help me how to resolve this. I shall be greatful for your quick response.

Regards,
Tehseen

Hello Tehseen,

There are several cases when blank pages can occur:
  • Report Width is greater than than the available page space (Page Width - Left Margin - Right Margin).
  • There is a data item that grows at runtime (e.g. sub-report, which contains a report that is too wide or a CrossTab that when bound grows horizontally more than the page size). While at design-time that is not obvious, at run-time it would cause a horizontal carry over to a new page.
  • There is a report item with boundaries going out to the right from its parent section.
Your description sounds like the second case as the problem occurs when columns become wider or the CrossTab generates more columns that can fit in a single page. In this case the behavior of horizontal carry over is correct.
