As an avid user of SSRS this seems like it should be something really simple.
From the designer, I was able to create a new SQL datasource and bind a textbox value to a datasource column with zero effort. I cannot seem to get a chart to work correctly, though. I set the datasource of the chart to my SQL data source, and I go into the series editor (or via the chart property, add new series). The "Data bind series elements" section remains grayed out (disabled) and there are no values showing in the dropdown in the series editor. I've read the documentation on the Telerik getting started and the series documentation and it just doesn't seem to be working. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks.

Hi mc2000,
I assume that you're talking about the "Chart Builder Wizard" (select Properties from the chart item context menu). If so, indeed this "wizard" has not been updated to reflect the changes introduced in the Q1 release. This is on purpose, as we are planning major changes to the chart item and introducing a real wizard that would work out of the box with the reporting Data Source Components.
Currently our suggestion is to use the property grid of the chart and specifically the series collection.
Thank you for the understanding and do let us know if further help is needed.
Regards,
Steve

Hello Ludvík,
The DataSource in the "Chart Builder Wizard" does not work, but we have added DataSource property to the chart item which can utilize the reporting Data Source Components.
To further customize the chart series appearance use the Chart Series Collection editor. The editor is shown after clicking on the ellipses of the Series property in the Properties window. To point out which column of the data source the chart series should bind to you can use the DataYColumn/DataXColumn properties of the series.
One example of how this is accomplished is shown in the Creating the Product Line Sales Report with Telerik Reporting video. The chart setup starts at 00:10:00.

Hi,
"Chart Builder Wizard" was a little confused. Now I have everything set in the properties window and it works as I expect.
Thank you for your help.
It's my first use of Telerik Reporting and think that it saves me a lot of work.

We have just installed the latest Q2 2012 report designer. Unless I am missing something, the Wizard serves no purpose and has no function. This seems to be a rather old post with a problem that has not been resolved. Is a true chart wizard planned for an upcoming release. The documentation at this link http://www.telerik.com/help/reporting/understandingwizarddata.html
does not appear accurate, as there is no way to make actual column names appear in the wizard after setting the data source and there is absolutely no documentation on data binding from within the report designer.

Hello Michael,
The "Chart Wizard" has not been modified since our last post, as we had our hands full with working with the most desired feature for a reporting product - standalone report designer. Additionally we decided that we're better off creating a new chart item that is not based on the RadChart for ASP.NET AJAX engine and we hope to introduce it for the next major version of the product. The current chart item would of course remain as well.
About the series - you would have to type in the column names manually. The Data Binding Chart help article lists the properties that are used for binding a chart to a data source.
Kind regards,
Steve
