Hi,
is there any way to enable resizing duration (start or end) of the parent/container element in gantt, via drag on the timeline (like it is possible for tasks)?
For example I want to be able to change start or end of "Software validation, research and implementation" from standard demo.
I couldn't find any setting that allows this, so is it possible and what would be proper approach?

Hi Vedad,
In the screencast linked here, you could see how the start and end time of the parent task ('Software validation, research and implementation') can be changed by dragging. The screencast is made using the Overview demo. Please let me know if I am missing something.

thank you for your answer, but I still cannot achieve this. If I do exactly the same thing on the same project it simply moves complete project.
I tried also on the same demo.
Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I don't see what.

Hi Vedad,
In the provided video I see that you manage to change the start and end of the parent task. For example at the end of the video the start of the parent task is changed from 05/27/2014 to 05/20/2014. The behavior is the same as in the video I have sent you previously and is expected.
Could you please confirm if the behavior you are trying to achieve is to update the parent task duartion, but without affecting the child tasks start/end? Please note the Gantt Component is designed to show a timeline of tasks in such a way that the parent tasks' duration is always equal to the net duration of its children. Therefore editing of the parent's start and end date offsets the start and end dates of its children and vice versa.

thank you. I am trying to change the duration of the parent task. I want to be able change parent task start or end separately, so I can adjust duration of the project. I am not sure that parent has to be sum of children durations (you can easily set date in the demo for the parent to be shorter than sum of children), but that is not a problem for me.
Basically, I would like to change start OR end of parent element via drag on the timeline, instead of going to table and changing dates manually.

I am afraid that currently such behavior could not be achieved out-of-the-box. I will suggest to log a Feature Request in our official Feedback Portal and describe the scenario and the requirements in details.

We monitor the customer demand periodically and will consider providing such an enhancement in the future, based on the interest.

Currently there is no possible workaround for the scenario. I would also encourage submitting a feature request for the functionality so that we can track the demand towards it.

I am not optimistic that this feature will be built any soon as some more useful ones still wait (for example: non working days within gantt - beside weekends).

Please note that the Feature requests are planned and added for implementation based on the demand. We monitor the requests logged in the portal and in case the community shows interest in a certain feature it is considered for implementation.

That is the feature I was referring to. It has been raised on 2014. and I upvoted on 2019.
I am aware that features are based on the demand, but for some things it is more the matter of logic than demand.
Gantt is scheduler type of the widget so not being able to see holidays in period you want to plan something, makes scheduling kind of difficult.
Same goes for this dates change, for me it is logical, if you can change only start OR end date for project/phase via editor or via change on the list, why it is not supported on the timeline, specially if its supported for packages?
But I mentioned this feature with non working days just as an example that I am not sure how much sense makes to make feature requests, I solved the problem for the gantt non-working days long ago. :)
Lets hope that feature will get the votes, but I am not so optimistic. :)
