I have a database with approximately 4,000 entries. I have created a grid that loops through the data, hides the expansion icon for items with no children and expands automatically creating an exploded bill of material. I used your demos to build this.
The grid is now giving me "System.OutOfMemoryException" in the design view when trying to display the grid. The page seems to work fine, but it just does not render in the design view. I think the problem may be that I have it set to HierarchyDefaultExpanded="True" for 9 details grids. I am assuming that it is exceeded the display limits of the the grid in design mode.

Hi Philip,
We have not received reports of such problems in design-time and neither can we reproduce the error. Since we are not sure what may be causing this behavior, I can suggest you to open a support ticket and attach to it the problematic page so we can observe the problem. We will get back to you right after we determine the cause for the error.
