Max file size for image editor

What is the max file size for using the image editor?  I am trying to work with a 2.3mb file and I can upload the file fine however when I go to edit it in the image editor it does not show up.

I am not sure how to do that as I am not the developer.  I think the problem is due to the fact that the file is 13000 pixels wide.  I am sure that the screen just cant display something this large.  And the point is really moot at this point as I have gotten the file in a smaller size and have uploaded the smaller image.  Plus I dont expect to ever have an image anywhere close to this large again.  Thanks for your help with this.
