I understand that the team is working hard to support the Report Designer for .NET 8 projects in Visual Studio 2022. However, may I know whether the Report Designer for .NET Framework 4.8 projects will be supported in Visual Studio 2026?
Based on the most recent official response from Telerik:
Support for the Visual Studio Report Designer (for .NET Framework 4.8 projects) is currently tied to supported Visual Studio versions like Visual Studio 2022.
For Visual Studio 2026, Telerik has stated they plan to maintain support for .NET Framework 4.8 projects as long as Microsoft continues supporting .NET Framework 4.8 in that IDE.
What this means in practice
There is no hard guarantee, but a clear intention to support it.
The key dependency is Microsoft’s continued support of .NET Framework 4.8 in Visual Studio 2026.
If Microsoft drops or limits .NET Framework support in future IDE versions, Telerik’s designer support would likely be affected as well.
Visual Studio 2026 is already officially supported. The Telerik Reporting System Requirements page explicitly lists the following under IDE Support: Microsoft Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, 2022, 2026 - System Requirements | Telerik Reporting.
Per the same system requirements page, the Telerik Reporting engine supports: .NET 8, .NET 9, .NET 10, or .NET Framework 4.6.2+ Full Profile. This means .NET Framework 4.8 projects are fully supported.
Regarding the Visual Studio Report Designer specifically: As documented in the Visual Studio Report Designer Overview, the designer is available only under .NET Framework (CS/VB report definitions). Due to technical limitations with Visual Studio services, there is no VS integrated designer for .NET (Core) projects. For .NET projects, you can use the Standalone Report Designer or the Web Report Designer instead.
In summary: You can use the Visual Studio Report Designer for .NET Framework 4.8 projects in Visual Studio 2026

Hi Deepak,
Thank you for reaching out.
Our current support policy ensures that the Visual Studio Report Designer is available for .NET Framework 4.8 projects in the latest stable Visual Studio releases, such as Visual Studio 2022.
For future Visual Studio versions like Visual Studio 2026, we plan to maintain support for .NET Framework 4.8 projects, as long as Microsoft continues to support .NET Framework 4.8 within those IDEs.
Yes, likely, but conditional.
