Can someone please explain how to make a custom editor template that has no concept of time zones? 

My attempts to turn them off still lead to end times being converted which caused start comparisons to end to be invalid.

Hi Roderick,

When working with remote data, it's highly recommended to set the Scheduler timezone explicitly (for example "Etc/UTC") to guarantee that all users would see the same dates and times no matter their configured system timezone. Also to achieve the desired behavior (as the Scheduler expects and sends to the server only UTC dates) you can configure the Scheduler to use "Etc/UTC" timezone and remove the "timezone" editor from the editor template in the following demo:
