I am using Windows 7, 32 bit Operating System
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Premium
and have installed Telerik Q1 2011 SP 1

I've run Visual Studio as an administrator.

While following the instruction in the first telerik getting started video, where we were to create a new Class Library and report, everything went well until I was to insert a text object.

On the video, there were Telerik objects listed in the Toolbox.  All I see are Windows Forms, Data, Components, Printing, and General.  No Telerik category.

I don't have long to see whether Telerik would be an adequate solution for our reporting needs.  Please help.

Hi Gina,

Once you open the Report Designer, the Report Items should be available in the VS Toolbox. If the report items are not available in the Toolbox even when the report designer is selected, please review the Telerik Reporting Toolbox items are missing KB article.

Hi Peter,

Can we have an update of the "Telerik Reporting Toolbox items are missing" KB article for Visual Studio 12?
Is it the same HKEY ("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\Packages\{2c298b35-07da-45f1-96a3-be55d91c8d7a}") under Visual Studio 12 or should I look for another key chain?

Thank you,

Hi Tito,

Before changing the registry, please run the product installer as suggested in the Telerik Reporting Toolbox items are missing KB article, and check for any listed problems.

Keep in mind that major Telerik Reporting versions can co-exist on the machine, but you will find enabled for work in VS only the latest version.

The Toolbox is loaded with Telerik Reporting items of the latest available version installed on the machine. If the opened in VS project is not upgraded to that version, the item will not appear in the Toolbox. If you run the Upgrade Wizard in the solution, the project will be upgraded to Telerik Reporting Q1 2014 and the Toolbox will be populated with items.

If you need further help with the Toolbox items, please open a support ticket and send us the created log file.

Regards,
Stef

I am in need of having 2 versions of reporting available on my system Q1 2012 and R3 2016 for 2 different solutions.  I need the toolboxes for each version to be displayed in the solutions, not just the latest one as you mentioned in the reply.  The older version was made by a consultant who didn't upgrade the reporting piece but updated the UI. Last year we purchased our own license and got the more updated reporting and are working to update our project to use that eventually, but in the meantime, we still need to be able to develop with the older reporting version as well until the update is complete.  I hope you can give me some direction as to how this can happen.  Thank you.

Hello Danielle,

You will need to keep only one of both versions, the one you develop in.

You can test having both versions and down/up-grade reports, where you should consider the 4+ year difference between versions and the API changes you will have to handle in the process.

Sorry to beat this dead horse, but you are saying I need 2 different computers one installed with the old version of telerik reports so I can keep updating reports from my client; and a 2nd computer installed with new version of reporting that I can work on upgrading old reports to the new version?  I can't just have 2 separate solutions on the same system that use 2 different versions of the reports? I am a newbie at Visual Studio and ASP.NET programming, so this is all over my head.

Hi Danielle,

If you install both versions on the same machine, you will be able to develop reports only with the newer version. Then you can test using the Upgrade Wizard to change the version of the designed reports to the older version - the process may require manual settings due to the API changes between the versions.

For more details, check Upgrading Telerik Reporting Projects.
