We have the split table cells command on our to-do list, but it has not been scheduled yet. That is why it is not clear when it will be implemented.

The public issue tracker system has been migrated to a new way of tracking items and gathering feedback, the Feedback & Ideas portal. I'm afraid this particular feature has not been implemented yet, but you can follow our progress on the matter here.
