a simple parent/child report (parent in header, child in detail) was changed to add a grandchild) subreport to the detail, just after the child row. in "preview" the report renders correctly. but when creating a PDF the subreport, by itself, appears on a second page.

in the PDF both pages contain the same header/footer. the first page contains the detail without subreport & the second page contains the sureport without detail.

again what's so confusing is it look fine in "preview' (using the same data).

tried setting "canshrink" to false on both report & subreport. no difference.

the report was upsided to Reporting DLL 10.2.16.1025.

any ideas?

Hello Tom,

Please check the main report in design-preview that is switched to Print mode - Interactive vs. Print Layout.
The Print mode produces layout similar to the one in PDF and other paged formats, which work with the report's PageSettings properties.

If there are blank pages, test setting all Subreport items and sections' KeepTogether to false, in main and all sub reports - Paging and Keep Together.
More troubleshooting suggestions can be found in Problem: Telerik Reporting renders blank pages.

I hope this helps.

Stef

found the problem.

the subreport pushed out just past the width of the main form. apparently that caused the subreport to appear on the next PDF page.

would have been nice if there was some kind of indicator that was the problem.

but all is good now.

Hello Tom,

The result is known after the last stage of the document generation and this cannot be indicated in the Report Designer.
Please feel free to log a feature request for having a summary of the document generation (rendering and paging) in design previews or in viewers. Features are considered for implementation based on the demand.

The common troubleshooting approach is to add borders and background colors to detect where sections and items appear in the document.
