Hi,

i have a performance problem with "Special Slots" in "schedule view". In my case I have n Groups, created dynamically out of a database. To see a special slot on grouping, I have to create each special slot for each group! In my case I have 960 Slots. Now the performance is not good on changing to moth view and on loading the application.

Is it possible to load the Slot once and use it for each group?

Thanks
Best Regards
Rene

Hi Rene,

When creating a lot of SpecialSlots, performance issues are possible. In our online documentation are described some tips how you can improve the performance of the ScheduleView when using SpecialSlots.
Here is the text:

"In some cases when using a big number of special slots there could be some performance issues in the RadScheduleView control. In order to not lose performance when using Special and ReadOnly slots you should keep in mind the following measures:
  • Populate the Slots that are in the visible range only.
  • If a Slot is in multiple Resources at the same time do not create a separate Slot for each Resource but rather assign the Resources to the Slot.
  • If a Slot is recurring do not create many different separate Slots but rather create a recurring one.
  • Treat the Slots as Appointments, the same performance principals exist."

Hope this helps.

Hi,

this issue is known for two years already:

http://www.telerik.com/community/forums/silverlight/scheduleview/specialslotstyleselector-performance.aspx

I'm a big supporter of all Telerik controls, but this feature is just useless as it impacts performance too much if you have more than 2-3 Special slots. I would suggest to remove it.

In the above thread it is written that it is too much impact to improve performance, but what about implementing a replacement for this? Most of us just want to show some very basic content in the background of a slot. For me, it would be enough being able change the background color of it.

Best regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

I have logged your feature request in our feedback portal, where you could track its status: http://feedback.telerik.com/Project/143/Feedback/Details/88674-optimization-of-specialslots-rendering
If we receive more clients' request we will try to figure out some way to color specific slots in the ScheduleView.
In the meantime, could you please explain a bit more about your requirements concerning the special slots - if you could send us a sample of how exactly you want them to be distributed, we will do our best to provide you with the best rendering option. It will also help us in targeting the issue in the future.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Konstantina
