Hello, Telerik Team! I've installed Q1 2009 version of Telerik reporting after installation of Q3 2008. So we have upgrade. But there's some problems with Max function in the detail section. Instead of getting result Max as maximum of all detail items, I get Max only for every element of the detail section. For i.e. we have 200, 300, 400 it's good if we get 400 by Max function, but not Max(field) = Value(field). What's wrong and how can we solve this problem?

Hello Igor,

As explained in the Understanding Report Sections help article, the detail section is printed once for every row in the data source i.e. only the current row value is available and thus Max(field) = Value(field). If you need an aggregate for a field, you should use groupfooter or report footer sections.

I understand it, but what is interesting I get Max for all values in Q3 2008 in detail section, but in Q1 2009 it's not working :-) I need it for pseudo bar (text box) creation.

Hello Igor,

With the introduction of the new Table/Crosstab items we have completely re-engineered the underlying  data processing engine and mostly how the groups are calculated. According to the new implementation, details became actually "detail" groups that contain only one data item/row. Since the aggregate functions are calculated over a group of data items and the detail groups contains only one data item, the result of the aggregate function when applied to a detail is equal to the corresponding data field.

In the versions prior to 2009 Q1 the aggregate functions in the detail sections were actually calculated over the whole data.

Unfortunately we cannot see any possible workaround for the new behavior and what we will do is to examine again both implementations and reconsider the new version and exactly the scope of the aggregate functions. We will appreciate if you can give us some more information regarding your specific usage of the aggregate functions inside the detail section so we can think of possible solutions.

Please excuse us for the inconvenience and thank you for the understanding.

Best wishes,
Svetoslav
