The line drawing shape tool needs to remove the padding or place the line at the bottom. It is difficult to design forms with many lines. Also, in design mode, can there be some type of zoom so that you can be assured of proper alignment without having to preview?

Hello Orin Book,

Thank you for the feedback. We will review the Line shape behavior you're talking about. As of now I suggest you to try to make the height (for the horizontal lines) or width (for the vertical lines) as smaller as possible just to make the line visible. This way the shape items will take the smallest possible area on the design surface.

Zooming the report designer will be very useful and we will implement it in the next versions for sure. For the time being I would suggest to make sure that your items are arranged correctly instead of using the zoom, and to set the location and size of the items using the precise units of your choice. For reports that will be printed on paper you could use inches and points (or centimeters and millimeters). Also you can set the snap grid size to the correct size (say 0.5cm or 0.1in or according to your needs). This way you'll arrange the items with just the mouse.

Feel free to share any other usability issues that you find.

Governemnt, State and business forms are usually very line intensive. You have to implement the ZOOM in preview. The way I worked around the designing was as you stated, finely precise X,Z coordinates. I had to name my line and other objects so that they would be easily identifieable. Then in report preview mode, I would then use the designer to edit the coordinates and then would have to refresh the report to see if I got the possitioning right. After every change, I would have to click refresh. Positioning coordinates where typically 3 decimal places. (1.237) I took me 3 days to do a half page military form from scratch. I Like this tool as a replacement to the major bugs that Crystal has presented to us. (Barcodes in PDF output lost size, connection pooling does not clear itself on PDF output with connection string change on the fly). This issues have crippled our reporting for our products for the last year. I would highly recommend at a minimum, an Import tool that converts the drawing/shapes/layout, databound fields. Formulas and any other issues not converted would be better than working a existing report from scratch. Cheers to your new product!

Thank you for the feednbck, Orin.

I definitely understand your concerns and we will add zooming functionality to the report designer. Our plans already contain separate Line report item that should simplify the task of drawing lines.

We've already have received a number of request for a conversion tool from other report formats (Crystal Reports, Active Reports) to Telerik reports and probably we will push this functionality forward and implement for the next version.

Kind regards,

Where do you change the snap grid size?  I've been searching, but that option is eluding me.

Hello James,

The report has a SnapGridSize property which you can use to change its size (see attached screenshot).

All the best,
