Hi,

Is it possible to prevent querying data until a filter has been input by the user?
A similar question has been asked here: http://www.telerik.com/forums/angular-server-side-filtering

Sample: http://dojo.telerik.com/EDAk

Thanks
Holger

Hello Holger,

Currently, this would not be possible (widget will not show popup if no data is found in the data source). We will investigate further the scenario and will try to think about a feasible built-in solution.

For now you will need to return some data initially (first item or the selected one) to show the popup element.

Any word on this?  Kind of makes server filtering worthless if its going to pull the whole source on drop down.  I would think the combo of min chars and server filtering would no pull any data till the min chars is satisfied.  This is the way Select2 works.

Hello Paul,

The desired functionality is still not available, although it is logged in out product backlog and probably will be implemented for the next official release of Kendo UI. For now you can follow the issue and on time notifications.
