Hi Latha,
To be able to customize the Background of RadTabItem when selected you'll have to retemplate the default control template of RadRibbonTab. If you open the default control template you will see a Border with x:Name Background_Selected that we made Visible when TabItem is Selected. You might refer to this help article that explains how to extract default templates of our controls.
