Hello we are using the silverlight viewer to see generated reports also I have installed the adobe reader 9.0.3 to
print the reports from browser. Now when i use firefox and i press the print button i get the printpreview from adobe. When
i use IE7 Browser i get a file dialog to save the pdf. How can i show the preview dialog directly like in firefox without
save dialog? Is it also possible to print the report without the adobe reader pdf plugin?  greetings Ulrich ...

Hello Ulrich Fiege,

As you have notices the printing functionality of the ReportViewer control depends on the Adobe PDF plug-in.

If the viewer does not detect the plug-in, it would open the default browser print dialog. If that is not happening, then there might be various reasons that disallow the print dialog to be opened from your browser e.g.:

  • Disable Print menu in IE group policy
  • disabled javascript
  • disabled pdf plugin for that browser
  • make sure that there are no other plug-ins with the same functionality, e.g. Foxit. Sometimes it may happen that they tamper with each other.

All the best,

Hello,

I'm having issues with the print functionality.

My clients seem to be using Foxit or other pdf readers on their system. I think the browser they are using is Chrome. How can I make it work on their systems?

Asking them to change browsers or install Adobe PDF is not an option.

Thanks.

Hi Sathish,

Upgrade to the Q3 2011 SP1 release which would allow your users to print via the Chrome PDF plug-in instead of Adobe PDF. If they do not use Chrome and do not have Adobe PDF plug-in installed, the print would export the file to PDF, so they can print it at their leisure.
