Is there a way to disable those warning icons that appear on the corner of an element when 2 or more elements overlap ?

Hello Kenneth,

Those warnings are added there on purpose and are only for the report designer (developer) to see. Currently there is no way to disable them and we have not thought of a well argumented reason why should there be such an option. Can you elaborate on your case?

Best wishes,

A reason why? Because it clutters up the page.

How hard is to have some settings added to the application? If I want to turn it on to check I can. But most of the time I want to ignore them because they actually do not cause problems.

While we at it, how about adding lines instead of boxes that are actually lines? That creates a mess.

Hi Phil,

I have logged the requirement as a new feature request and voted on your behalf - Let the developers disable overlap warnings in the Report Designers. You will be updated automatically for any change in its status.

I am not sure I understand the second requirement. Can you elaborate? Do you mean Shape items? If so, note that we support multiple shapes and not only lines.

I totally appreciate the presence of those icons and would 99% of the time work with them for sure.
My situation is probably extremely uncommon and to be honest is a unique situation for me so I doubt it qualifies
as a good reason as I will probably never need to do a report like this ever again.

To elaborate , we are working on a system for a global forwarding company and the most important document
really is something called the SAD500 form which is a single document and must be a single document that contains
alot of information pertaining to air and ocean waybills. Unfortunately , in order to keep it single document, alot of
information had to be crammed onto one page and to make matters worse we MUST make it identical to the standard
document.

Why that makes it worse is because the standard document looks like a child with bad lego skills got
let loose on this document. There are blocks, half blocks , half lines and cells of all different sizes piled on top of
and next to each other to the degree that even a table control would be mostly useless to duplicate the majority of this document.
This means that we are stuck drawing a great many rectangles and placing the odd lines to duplicate this document
as a Telerik report in our reports library. Essentially to ensure that we have all the borders lines touching each other but
also not creating double width lines ,we have some overlap everywhere - it covers a GREAT many of the corners and
results in a lot of backwards and forwards to the preview window just to be sure that corners are 100% in line.

We originally intended to simply take snapshot of the image with no text on and place that into the report and add text
ourselves at the correct position which was a quick workaround this currently horrid option but none of the pdfs we found
had a correct sized a4 image when copied/exported and the result was that we had to stretch the image which looked
profoundly bad . Out of desperation now I am manually drawing it and spending alot of time travelling back and forth
to the preview window.

Hello Kenneth,

Thank you for the additional information. However aligning items absolutely correctly has never been the purpose of the report designer. Actually as you've noticed by your experience, this can prove to be quite a tedious task especially if you have to create an odd looking report like the one you describe. This task becomes even harder if you take into account the fact that you are allowed to work with various measurement units and this is all being lumped together depending on the resolution you use, so that it would end up in pixels.
In other words - for precise alignment and positioning of report items, you would be better off specifying those directly through the respective Location/Size properties after some mathematical calculations on beforehand.

All the best,

I would also be interested in knowing how to disable these overlapping icons because it just creates a mess on the designer.  For example we have an image that acts as the form and then I am placing textboxes on top of that image.  When I do this it says "overlapping items may not appear as expected..." and it just gets so congested with the icons.

Any way to hide these icons?  I am using Telerik.Reporting 6.2.13.110.

Hi thedee,

The warning can be removed only if the overlapping items are eliminated. Please test loading the image as a BackgroundImage of the report - Report>Style>BackGroundImage, or as a BackgroundImage of the physical document - Report >PageSettings>BackGroundImage.

Other approach is to design the report to look like the existing form template, by styling sections and items.

Stef
