You can do this by setting the LoadedOnDemand property of a node that you just loaded in the NodeExpanded handler to true.
As a side node, you may have already noticed, but just in case if you have not - the NodeExpanded event is obsolete and will be removed in a future version in favor of the NodeExpandedChanged event.
