.NET 8 support?

I was surprised when I downloaded the latest Q2 release to not find any folder with .NET 8 DLLs, only .NET 7.

NET 7 is already at "End of Support" as of May 14th according to Microsoft.

Considering NET 8 is designated as having LTS (long term support) from Microsoft I was wondering what Telerik's plans are regarding a NET 8 release of your WPF suite?

We would like to move from .NET 6 which we currently use, to .NET 8 which has LTS.

Hello Claus,

Currently, we don't have .NET 8 dedicated dlls because there is no meaningful need for that, since you can use the .NET 7 version in a .NET 8 project without any issues. On the other hand, providing an extra set of dlls will be a considerable load over the Telerik's source code infrastructure and the associated continuous integration processes.

However, we have plans to retire the .NET 7 dlls set and introduce a new one for the new .NET versions. This is planned for this November's release and it is mentioned in our roadmap.

I've read that roadmap but I don't underdstand why Telerik focuses on the odd-numbered .NET versions without LTS.

.NET 8 has LTS. So if we want to go with with .NET LTS versions - as recommended by Microsoft - then we will have to use .NET 7 as you mentioned, even after Telerik "retires" them because we cannot use NET 9 DLLs in a NET 8 project as far as I'm aware.

The roadmap focuses on the .NET 9 support, but this simply means that the Telerik components can be  used in .NET 9 applications. At the moment, the plan is to introduce .NET 8 assemblies.
