Hi Telerik,

I have been using the Telerik report designer successfully for several years.  The run-time happens through third party software, so I am only in the report designer.

Recently I have switched to a new machine.

My existing reports now generate the error in the report designer:

I was using an Alias to connect, but my instructions left to myself several years ago for setting up a new machine, no longer seem to bring up the connection properties to configure the Alias for my machine.

I am expecting something like the image below, but I can no longer get the window on the right to appear.

Any Idea what I am doing wrong, or what steps I need to take?

Again, I am only using the Telerik Report Designer.

Thanks!

Hello Mike,

Can you try to following steps:

1. Create a new Report in Report Designer

2. Add a new SQL Data Source

3. Build a new DB connection and Click OK

4. Provide some Alias name and continue with the setup

Keep in mind that a new shard data source will be create and I can reuse it next time. This should help if you don't have the DB connection available.

There are few more ways to handle this and I'll share details in my next comment.

Or you could simply go to File -> Options -> Data Connections and create/update the needed connection

If the details above do not help, please provide some more details regarding your case. This link should also be helpful when it comes to connecting to other databases -> https://docs.telerik.com/reporting/designing-reports/connecting-to-data/data-source-components/sqldatasource-component/how-to-connect-to-a-sql-database

Mystery partially solved.

This issue was that the window did not open large enough for the "Build" button to be displayed, so all could see to do was to click next!

So now I have a new dataconnection with a new Alias that is working!  But...

I can't seem to modify the old one that I didn't set up correctly the first time.

Any further thoughts there?  I really need the broken Alias to work.

Mike

Oh, I see our comments crossed in cyber space, I will try using the File Options method.

So the part that I was missing was:

When the Choose Data Connection window opens, make sure the window is big enough that you can click on the Build button!

The File Options info above was helpful too in order to fix the broken connection after the fact.
