We use the Report Designer to design a report that we want to access through the browser.
Does the Telerik Report service support Linux installation? What if I could include a link in my reply?

Hi yd,

I want to mention that I moved this ticket to our forums to help anyone in the community that may be looking for this same question. With that said, let me get to Telerik Reporting's Linux Support below.

Linux Support

Linux is supported when build reports in .NET Core or .NET 5+. However, there are a few caveats to this  approach which I will provide next.

Standalone Designer

We do not have support the Standalone Designer on Linux. If this is the designer being used, see the potential workaround section below.

Visual Studio Designer

At this time, the Visual Studio designer doesn't work in .NET Core/.NET Standard projects. This is a planned feature and is tentatively scheduled for R3 2021 per the Make Visual Studio Designer Work with .NET Core (SDK Projects) feature request.

For more details, see the Implemented Features and Limitations section of the .NET Core Support article.

Windows GDI+

Telerik Reporting requires Windows' GDI+ API. However, when deploying reports to a Linux machine, a mono implementation is used instead. The mono libgdiplus is not a 1:1 replacement for the Windows Graphics library and thus some rendering differences may occur.

For more information about this, see the Using Telerik Reporting in Application on Linux section of the .NET Core Support article.

Potential Workaround

A possible workaround for this is to use the Web Report Designer in a .NET Core/.NET 5+ application which will allow the users to design reports on the web, will produce .trdp/.trdx reports and can be hosted on a Linux machine.

Wrapping Up

I hope this helps you or anyone looking to build and deploy reports in a Linux environment.

Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thank you for using the Telerik Reporting forums.
