Hi,
we want to open a custom windows application with the Navigate to URL action. The protocol is neither "http" nor "https" it is "profile". So the link we want to navigate to looks like this: "profile://hostname/db(tenant)/Parts(1)". This seems to work perfectly fine if we render it to an Excel file but won't open anything if we render it to a PDF.
Greetings
Jan
The PDF format URI Action does not provide control over the opening target. For that reason, the PDF viewer controls where to open the link and it may not be possible to start a windows application with this approach.
Please see the PDF Rendering Design Considerations article for more information.
I opened the PDF in Acrobat Reader and in Foxit PDF Reader, and in both cases, clicking on the link would open a dialog asking me whether I agree to be redirected to the URL. In both cases, it would open an empty tab in my default browser.
I have attached a short video on the dialog that is displayed in Adobe Acrobat Reader on clicking the link.
This is expected behavior, the Navigate To Report action will work only with HTTP/HTTPS links that are opened in the system's default browser.
In order to have custom protocols to work with this action, you may consider making a feature request at the Progress® Telerik® Reporting Feedback Portal.
