Is there a list somewhere of the items that are not possible with a dialog that would be possible with a window?

...or some sort of decision tree as to when to use a window and when to use a dialog?

Hello Bill,

The Dialog widget is a subset of the Window widget, where the most prominent difference is the added functionality for actions and predefined dialogs. Sadly there is no list of differences between both or a decision tree regarding usage.

The Dialog brings information to the user via a popup, provides actions possibilities through the action buttons and prompts the user for input or to asks for a decision. The Window can display both modal or non-modal content and additionally display ajax loaded content.

You can review the API reference for the Dialog and the Window widgets for additional information on configuration possibilities, methods and events.

I hope this help. Let me know if you have futher questions.

Regards,
Aleksandar

Hello Paul,

Indeed there is no list of differences between both the Window and Dialog widgets or a decision tree to help determine which widget to use. The main differences are described in the previous post and further details are available in the documentation.

Of course, if you are struggling in making a decision on which widget to use, please share further details on the scenario you have and what you would like to achieve. This way we would be able to provide the most suitable suggestion for the particular scenario.

Regards,
Aleksandar
