Hi
(There are multiple questions , iin this single question. )

I was understanding deployment process. I created a simple winforms application with couple of forms getting datafrom SQL into GridControl. I marked assembly as "Copy Local" and published it.    When i Installed it on a Fresh XP machine, it did get installed, but the form containing GRID did not open.   Why?

I recalled my experience of Crystal report with VS2003 or VS2005 where report runs fine on developer PC, but when deployed, it stops working and we need to add a key into deployment and setup project and then deploy it on client machines.

In order to understand how deployment will work,  I came upon this link http://blogs.telerik.com/vassilterziev/posts/08-01-15/telerik_licensing_demystified.aspx and got more confused.

"Our products do NOT work with license keys and you can safely install them on any machine without worrying about license key errors"

Well this is fine and I understand the freedom behind it. but then how licensing works?
Do I not to enter license key anywhere on PC?

Regards

Hi Lee,

Thank you for the question.

To start off, your question is not a licensing one. Our tools do NOT use license keys, and because of that you do not need to enter such nowhere. The blog you have found is not related to application deployment, but to license deployment, which is a technical question.

"Copy Local" is the simplest strategy of deploying a project on a client machine. For each Telerik assembly reference in the Solution Explorer, open its context menu, click on properties and in the property grid set the Copy Local property of the reference to True. This deployment process is provided by Microsoft and we support it fully.

For more information on publishing Windows Forms applications, please check the Microsoft Developer Network and Google.

Sincerely yours,

Hi Lee,

It seems that I did not explain myself properly - please, excuse me for this. The blog you have reviewed is not related to application deployment, but to licensing, i.e. how our licensing mechanism works. Your question is a technical question (i.e. how to deploy Telerik controls), and is not related to licensing, per se. The only relation here is that you will not need license keys, which actually simplifies the deployment process.

Here is an example: if you obtain a trial version of MS Office, you have obtained a trial license. If you have troubles installing this license (say, you do not have hard disk space), then you have a technical problem, which is not related to the product being a trial.

I hope this clears things up.
