We do business intelligence and a central part of our work is reporting on KPIs.  For the sake of clarity, we define a KPI as an Actual, Target(s), and Comparison Method.  There are usually two Values and an Indicator, like a traffic light, or an arrow pointing in different directions.  Sometimes, there's a Gauge as well.

For example, higher is good, the target is a fixed value.  There's also lower is good, going up is good, going down is good, and Goldilocks.  For the Goldilocks comparison method (not too hot, not too cold) we specify a range, and staying in the range is good.

For the life of me, I've studied the documentation, and I can't find a KPI Indicator control.  What am I missing?

Cheers, Donna Kelly.

p.s. if you ever use SQL Server Analysis Services Cubes, these are actually built in to the Cube, and feed SQL Server Reporting Services KPIs directly.  This link shows the kind of thing I'm looking for.

KPI Process have 4 steps starting with determining how KPI will be used. You should have a team discussion on what criteria should be used to determine their KPIs and how these will impact their performance. Then Link those KPI's to organizational goals so that you know that the company is on the right track. Another key aspect of the KPI process is to ensure that your team understands the ultimate goals of the organization and the plan of action that should be followed to achieve them. The next step is to make sure your KPI's are following the SMART formula. That means KPI's should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time bound. Final step is to audit the KPI's when necessary and make changes. Businesses diversify or change their existing processes depending on market conditions. When this happens you may need to revise the previously set KPIs and establish new indicators which would align with the new goals. Hope this guide onKPI's guide helped you!

Hello Donna,

Indeed, we don't provide a KPI Indicator control. We haven't met a requirement for such control so far. You may log a feature request for the same in our public feedback portal so that the other users can vote for it and increase its priority.

We provide the CubeDataSource component to retrieve data from an OLAP Cube. I think also that by using List or Table with Shapes and/or PictureBox items with appropriate images you may achieve a similar layout as seen from the referenced Microsoft article. Note that you may use Bindings or Conditional Formatting to modify the layout of the items based on the incoming data with proper Expressions.

Unfortunately, we don't have built-in Gauge type Graphs yet. However, they are in our plans for R3 2021. You may vote for the Introduce gauges report item feature request to further increase its priority.

Todor,

thanks for this.

I saw the CubeDataSouce component and thought this was a big plus.  It's unfortunate that there's no KPI reporting control, but given what you've said, we will see about creating a similar layout.

I hear you regarding a feature request, and would ask a follow-up question, if I may?  What about Custom Controls?  Is it feasible to create a Custom Control that could be added to the toolbox?

Regards,

Donna Kelly

Hello Donna,

We don't support custom controls. This is a valid feature request and I have logged it on your behalf and voted for it - Add support for custom report items. As a token of gratitude for the suggestion, we have updated your Telerik points.
